Rebecca arrived early, her nerves frayed. She scanned the café, and there he was—her father, seated at a table near the window. He looked older than she remembered. Not just in the lines on his face, but in his eyes, which now carried the weight of months lost.

She approached, and when she sat down, Mark immediately reached across the table, gently taking her hands in his.

“I’ve made mistakes, Becca,” he began, his voice low and sincere. “I was stubborn. Judgmental. I thought I was protecting you, but I only pushed you away. I’m sorry. I want to make things right—if you’ll let me.”

Rebecca’s eyes filled with tears. She hadn’t expected him to come with so much humility. The wall around her heart trembled.

There was still so much to say. And she knew—it was time to finally tell him the truth about Dean.

“I’ve missed you, Dad,” Rebecca said softly, her voice trembling with emotion. “Being apart from you and Mom… it’s been really hard.”

Mark gave her hands a gentle squeeze, his eyes misting over. “I know, sweetheart. And I’m sorry for all of it. But I want to change that. I want to be here for you—and for your family.”

His words reached a part of her that had long been aching. For the first time in months, Rebecca felt something shift inside her—a warmth, a cautious sense of belonging.

“There’s something you need to know about Dean,” she said carefully, meeting his eyes. “But… Mom needs to hear it too.”

Mark nodded without hesitation. “Then let’s do it right. Come to the house. Jane needs to hear this from you—not from me. I think… she’ll listen better that way.”

So it was decided.

The next day, with a quiet determination and a flicker of hope, Rebecca and Dean made their way to her parents’ home.
